Geoff Smith Coaching

Geoff Smith became a member of the Australian Professional Golfers Association in 1971 after completing a traineeship at Manly Golf Club, Sydney. His playing career was mainly in NSW and QLD where he contested many of the major events including the 1975 Australian Open.

His first position as Club Professional was Bondi Golf Club and then progressed to Katoomba Golf Club, Club Banora at Tweed Heads and then became Director of Golf at Paradise Springs Golf Club and later became General Manager. But his passion was teaching golf and therefore left the management position looking for work as a Teaching Professional. These positions included teaching with the Australasian Golf Academy, the PGA’s premier golf management program at Griffith University, teaching presentations for the PGA Trainee Intensive Schools, Teaching Professional at MtGravatt Golf Driving Range, Oz Golf Institute, Willawong Golf Driving Range and Go Golfing Golf Schools.

Geoff’s passion is teaching golf and with 35 years experience he has learnt a lot about golf swing technique, short game technique, sports psychology, bio-mechanics, nutrition, developing talented players and generally how to get the best out of any players’ current ability. He is a regular attendee at the PGA’s coaching seminars and has accredited 12 years as a AAA PGA member. During this period he has attended presentations from world renowned international and national golf coaches such as Gary Wiren, Jim McLean, Mike McGetrick, Chuck Cook and Hank Haney (Tiger Woods coach).

With 35 years experience in professional golf, Geoff has learnt to keep things as simple and as logical as possible. His focus is on understanding the golfer and getting them to understand the principles of the golf swing. According to Master Professional Gary Wiren from the United States, “Your understanding makes a proper swing, the proper swing does not create understanding”.
